The Southern California Thomas Fire & How You Can Help

The fires in Southern California have been or are active in four of the state’s counties. Since October of this year, over 268,000 acres have been affected, fueled by high winds, a heat wave and rugged terrain.

Residents of the Orange County, San Diego and Los Angeles fires are returning or have returned to their homes to start the rebuilding process. The largest fire, The Thomas Fire, located in Ventura and Santa Barbara counties is 20% contained. Red Cross shelters have been a great help to all of the Southern California residents who have needed a safe place to stay for themselves and their animals. They are opening as needed and closing once evacuations are being lifted. Local organizations, such as the California Fire Foundation, have also been busy providing real time support to those displaced from the fires.

The California Fire Foundation started the Supplying Aid to Victims of Emergency (SAVE) program. They work directly with local fire agencies to coordinate aid throughout the affected regions.
